Another LW is rumoured to be targeted by NUFC! Player is 18 year-old Birmingham City left winger Demarai Gray. Just what the club needed another LW to go with the load of LWs we already got! When are we going to buy 2 RWs instead?

Straw poll everyone!

Has Ashley done more harm than good to our club since he took over? Financially we are in the best position we've ever been in and look solid for the future.

Would the fact that if he made us fans more aware of his plans and direction for the club we may be more receptive to him?

I think its the general idea that I've done it so stuff you all attitude that is really getting up peoples noses, he's got a lot to learn about "branding" the club properly and that starts with keeping the fans informed of what's going on and why.

Just my opinion but would like to know if anyone else feels this way.

Tigerwhenroused

1.) Under ashley, we will never win the title or even get into the champions league, he's too stubborn. To be a champions league club, you need to spend around 30-50million at least each summer transfer window on top quality players.

2.) He has put the club on a good footing
And a sellable asset
Under freddy shepherd we were heading for administration FACT
The only thing I can say the Ashley has done very poorly is lack of communication wether it be with the fans or the media

3.) Ashley's only flaw is his appalling managerial, coaching and staffing appointments and he shows no sign of stopping. Who employs JFK once, let alone twice!

4.) JTOON its not just 30/40 million on players now its the 200k a week wages aswell which for 1 player on a 4 year contract is 40 million

5.) People want Ashley to spend large amounts on transfers and wages. They seem to forget that in terms of billionaires he's quite poor, only has £1-£2 billion so there's a point where the lack of spending isn't because he doesn't want to but because he can't afford to.

6.) Been saying that for ages mate his money is all tied up in investments the guy is a genius when it comes to business deals the worrying thing is mike Ashley selling shares in some of his business's something he hasn't done since 2007 on the other hand could he have cashed his shares in to invest the 100mill on Newcastle in transfers

7.) You realise of course that 2 billion is 2000 million? I don't think spending £30m on players is going to leave a big dent. Especially considering how much he generates.

8.) Ashley is only a billionaire on paper

9.) The best teams pay the most wages. Let's assume the first team get's paid £100k/week. That's £52.8 million/year. Let's say the reserve 11 get's paid half that, that's £26.4 million/year. So that plus the £30-£50 million people say he should spend on transfers is £79.2 million/year. Then there's wages for youth players, coaching staff, non-football staff ( e. g. cleaners), wages for directors, stadium and training ground upkeep, paying puma to make the kits, the cost of food and drink foe match days, energy bills etc. Last year I think he generated something like £250 million in revenue from the club. So at the end of the year chances are he'd be losing money. Basically the moral of the story is Ashley cannot afford to spend the amounts of money people are demanding without going bankrupt.

10.) Do u lot all know this is a website for transfer rumours. There are plenty of forums if you would like to discuss the fat man thank you, not on here though.

11.) How are we in a good financial position when we owe ashley £267 million we owe the bank nowt now but our debt has risen by £150 million since he took over FACT!

12.) Its going to take a multi billionaire to buy you and take on your debt. To think the people who bought man city actually wanted to buy newcastle.

13.) We are actually more in debt now than ever, we just owe it to Ashley.
I would rather we were in the championship with a proper club than this Sh*t!

14.) Ashleys a very private person he needs someone he trusts at the club to be his link he trusts jfk lambeezi was behind all the embarrasing sponsors and name changes and he's gone now ash trusted him too but even though we moved forward financially the repurcusions were too embarrasing

15.) How are we in DEBT!

Ashely bought a DEBT ridden club for just under 140 Million.

He has cleared the DEBT and his total investment is around 270 million including the purchase of the CLUB.

Ashley is in this to earn money hence the reason why he is borrowing the money to the club opposed to throwing it around like Chelsea and City do.

Newcastle in todays market would be worth at least 200 million considering how financially sound we are.

The city chairman offered over 280 million for Newcastle before they bought City, Ashely wanted 450 Million and that's the reason why they bought CITY.

You don't owe money to your Chairman, the next person who were to buy newcastle would so its a win win.

I don't agree with some of his policys and most of the times his decisions however you don't become a billionaire over night, With this new TV money were only going to become more investable.

Since relgation we have bought some great players such as Cabaye, Santon, Ben Arfa, Cisse, Debuchy, Mbiwa, Sissoko, TIOTE (prior to last season he was a beast) ETC so we are moving in the right direction.

We have a team now capable of getting to Europe every season however with further investment we could go a top 6 finish year in year out.

I do agree with some that we will never win the PL with Ashley but at the end of the day what would you prefer, Ashely and Newcastle or the same situation like Portsmouth, Crazy chairman borrowing like no tomorrow and virtually creating a bombshell.

Did anyone else see the reports of Pardew explaining that Ferrerya has been injured and that's the reason why he's not been playing? Thought it was because he wasn't showing enough in training which was reported beforehand. How are we to believe and trust our manager when they can do a full 180 turn on a story every time? FFS I hate this set up, I really do. All we want as fans is a setup that treats us fairly and openly with what's going on, not be told lies and contradictions to every time they deign to talk to the press.

Tigerwhenroused

1.) 05 Oct 2014 20:55:34
Iv only ever read about Ferrerya having a slight injury?! Sometimes I think people get hung up on the most pointless things! I wish people would just get behind which ever 11 are on the pitch who are all wearing the shirt and badge and stop going after the manager/owners. can't you see that its having a negative effect on the club as a whole which turns into poor performances.

Nice to see Marveaux get 2 last night - played as a CF, scored one and a left footed freekick to the top right corner for the other - another player possibly played out of position by Pardew?

Tigerwhenroused

1.) Possibly. Definately

2.) How come Marveux MBY & we know HBA can all perform when away from Newcastle
Says something about the manager & coaches

I've been spending time going through our squads players histories to see what positions they were playing before coming to us and if Pardew has constantly played square pegs in round holes. I found some interesting stuff which I thought I'd share and welcome any comments. I appreciate that I may have left a few players like Streete out of my views and can apologise for that, again any comments about our fringe players gratefully received.

Lets start off with the defence:
LB: We currently have 6 players who are LB's or who can play there. The most interesting thing is that Anita has played there consistently before joining NUFC but has not been used there consistently. He is not a DM or a DC by nature.

RB: There are 3 RBs on the books. Janmaat who has played there consistently throughout his career, Colback can play there as a secondary role and R. Taylor who is consistently injured. We need another RB as cover.

CB: 5 CBs - Williamson and Collo, Taylor, MYM, Mbabu. We seriously need to get MYM back playing his natural role of CB and I would pair him with the returning Mbabu as a younger more dynamic partnership. Willo and MYM did have the makings of a fairly decent partnership too.

Central Midfield: Right this is a strange one because we have which I will split into 3 parts: DM, CM and AM if that's ok with everyone?

DM: There is only one recognised DM in the team and that's Tiote. He is the only player with the history throughout his career of playing this role.
You may say Colback too, but his history says he plays further forward with some defensive qualities in his locker.

AM: We have 3 names here - De Jong, Cabella and Vukic. Cabella has played on the right wing but his main position historically has been as a AM.

All the others on our books are CM's, Abeid, Bigi and Sissoko - and yes historically Sissoko has been a consistent CM not a RW!

LW: We have an abundance of LW players. Gouffran, Aarons, Ameobi, Ferguson, Marveaux, etc. Gouffran is a strange one as he has historically in his career been a LW and support striker for his clubs. More on that later.

RW: Arrrghh what can I say? We have 2 recognised RWs and one of them is at Hull and the other is Obertan! This was seriously a position that needed strengthening. Interestingly enough though I found that Bigi has played there a reasonable amount of times too. - Maybe Pardew should take a leap of faith and play him there too?

Forwards: Ah were do we start? Cisse, Riviere, Perez and Ferreyra, all similar in style - all pacey and natural goalscorers? The problem with that is that we don't have anyone playing with them as a hold up player, AM or CM's coming forward in support of them. Playing each as a lone striker will never work as they then have to perform that role themselves and there are no other natural goalscorers in the side to take the pass or flick ons. I truly believe that we needed a large strong target man so get the best out of these players. Did we get any? ummm. no.

Saying that both Obertan and Gouffran do have some experience playing the support striker roles in their histories, maybe worth experimenting with them until reinforcements arrive?

So let's look at how Pards has played our squad over the start of the season - Cabella has been played as a RW in the 1st 4 games - not to any effect I may add. When played as an AM we have been better but not great. Hope De Jong comes back on fire - Maybe we shouldn't play an AM at all and sacrifice this position for another striker?

Sissoko and Gouffran - have consistently been played slightly out of position as CM's in all games albeit with a licence to roam to the outside. I prefer Sissoko being the Box to box midfielder through the centre myself and with Gouffran having Sammy and Aarons brething down his neck for that LW slot - maybe its time to find him a new position maybe? - maybe that support striker role I mentioned earlier?

Colback: He's been consistently played as a DM by Pards and has been ok though I do think that his passing could be better and his set piece taking is horrible to watch. Maybe pushing him further up field to pressure their back four with a brief to simple pass may work?

RW I know this is going to controversial but I would definitely pick Obertan for the RW role - he looked sharp against Stoke with some great crosses being made IMO.

Striker - This is the bug bear for me - we bought 3 players in who are all pacey goalscorers - but to get the best out of them we need that Target Man who can physically outmuscle the opposition and lay of the pass for them to latch onto. There are only two players in the squad that have any experience doing this that's Obertan and Gouffran - pick one and watch the striker come alive instead of being brushed off the ball.

BTW did anyone take any notice of Sky's coverage before the Stoke game? They were discussing Arsenals abysmal corner routines vs the other top sides - it boiled down to a decent taken corner and having 5 in the box and one on the keeper - Arsenal were putting 3 in the box and couldn't get anywhere! Watched the Stoke match and hey presto Newcastle were guilty of 3 in the box and no decent delivery at the corners - Pardew please watch this piece of punditry and apply the lessons learned from it please!!!

So back to how we should set up - the back four should possibly remain the same but I would love to see a new CB partnership. If Tiote plays then I would have Sissoko with him - De Jong being injured means no AM role. If you play Colbeck don't play Tiote and vice versa. My wings and I mean wings not CM's would be Ameobi and Obertan - both have blistering pace and would frightened defences. Up front I would put Gouffran as your Target Man and then any other striker as his partner - preferably Cisse as he has scored in the prem this season. So I'm advocating a 442 system with Sissoko given reign to go forward and Tiote being the anchor or have sissoko and colback together but try to close down higher up the field than a DM would.

Sorry its been a long piece but I wanted to get these thoughts down for ages.

Tigerwhenroused

1.) B. Heck you have been busy

2.) Well we at least know your views good on yer

3.) 02 Oct 2014 15:37:49
dimond 442 would work for us, need 2 up front

4.) Fantastic post tiger, good analysis.

would like to see us play a traditional 4-4-2, with Cabella as the winger cutting inside and obertan as the out and out winger.

Krul
Janmaat-Saylor-Coloccini-Haidara
Obertan-Sissoko-Tiote-Cabella
Riviere-Cisse

Riviere playing as a "false 9" while Cisse being a poacher.

5.) Spot on Tigerwhenroused, Sissoko through the middle to attack and defend and pace out wide, best to try something different and fail rather than stick to what we already know is not working 4231.

6.) Thanks for the positive feedback guys - some good view there.

Jtoon do you really think Cabella would make it as an inside forward? He's not really cutting it at all for me - except maybe as an impact sub later on. Riviere is an out and out striker - not sure if he has the physicality to play a support role or the false 9.

Jimmy I agree a 442 diamond would be good; if we have de Jong back. He's historically the only AM we have with a goalscoring history.

Anyone know who our best deadball specialists are now? Not including RTaylor? Another neglected area imo by the coaching staff.

7.) Colback has been used as a LB before by safc, but never his strongest position and reason he never signed new contract for safc, he is a tidy player and will give his all as he used to playing for teams involved in relegation battles, if selling cabaye is the reason for nufc demise, and getting rid of pardew is the answer, who will be the fans choice to replace him, hoddle cockney, moyes scottish boring style of football, pulis considering how you treat Big Sam , so maybe Lee clark or Steve Bruce of the toon, I doubt Shearer would fancy another shot, and please don't say king kev, mike ashley might let you go down and take his loan from tv money at end of season, and then you could be left in admin and get deducted 10 points at least, then see if anyone wants to buy you, a ideal place for a city centre development your ground would become and at a good price, plus ashley would be able to relocate the club name he still owned and relocate to Glasgow Rangers and gain entry to english football league, this is all just a domesday scenario, but its not impossible

I'm a bit confused this morning, can someone tell me why we are rumoured to be letting MYM go and keeping Staylor and Collo? I know this might be a bit controversial but I thought Willo and MYM made a decent CB pairing last season. As I've said before Staylor is no doubt going to end up on the injury list for the season and Collo is one family problem away from losing interest again. Wouldn't it have been better to keep a MYM and use him with Willo then purchase cover or better for them? I'm at a loss trying to figure out what the hell we are doing here. Three games in and I'm getting this sinking feeling again that the regime still haven't got a clue.

Tigerwhenroused

1.) Couldn't agree more MYM is a much more reliable defender than Saylor and has still got potential. The only thing I could think of is when clubs register their squads they have to have at least 8 British players, and letting Saylor go would leave us with not enough.
So we have:

Elliot
Alnwick
Taylor
Taylor
Williamson
Dummett
Colback
Armstrong

You could include Bigirimana and keep players like Abeid and Haidara unregistered as they are u21's.

Other than that then as you say this is another clueless move under this regime

2.) That is too sensible and Newcastle do not do sensible things
If you have the sinling feeling it will come as no shock come October you will be used to it.

3.) After 35 years of supporting the toon I've accepted we are rubbish. Life is easier that way! we have always sold our best players and kept the dross.

Just a thought for the board to ponder. It strikes me that no matter what you do you have always seriously misjudged the feelings of your fans.

To sum up how we feel about I club is simple, we all think the way Sir Bobby Robson described football:

"What is a club in any case?

Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it.

It's not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes.

It's the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

It's a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father's hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love. "

Unless you realise this is truly the only feeling any supporter has for their club, then you will never be accepted, praised or even thanked by the people who provide the only means that your club can flourish: Us, your club's fans.

Tigerwhenroused

1.) Yep absolutely right & it will Never change They know nothing about football and in turn NOTHING about fellings fans have

There can never be a debate about putting wrongs right because they would not know where to begin Which is by saying SORRY

Cheers geodietom the way I see it - Drop Collo, play Willo with Mbubu and recall MYM. Pair both with Willo to gain experience in Prem. REason is Willo has had a decent partnership with MYM in the past. I think he drops concentration or defers to Collo when he's paired with him. Keep them apart and he gains in confidence. Mbubu needs Prem experience and MYM has it but wasn't played enough in his natural CB position. Don't think we will spend or attract any experienced CBs in come January.

With you on your comments JToon. Way I saw it we only looked good when we changed to a 442 formation with Obertan and Sammy on the wings. This is exactly what I mentioned in my post in Newcastle Teams. Wonder how we would have done if we had played that from the start eh? Credit to Sammy and with the right side being used the least in the first half - well done to Obertan for providing the cross for our first goal!

Couple of things stood out for me when reviewing the game - Cisse was all over the pitch during the game. He shouldn't be tracking back to his own penalty box - if he does we have no outlet on the break and besides don't we have a dm and 4 defenders to break up opposition play on the field? Collo is again guilty of slack defending and ball watching - I'm convinced we should have a new and younger CB partnership in there now.

Has Cisse been offered the captaincy for his backing of Pardew in the post match interviews? :)

Think the plan seems to be wait it out until Rangers are secure in the SPL then sell NUFC. He's on record as saying he's staying until 2016 so that kinda makes sense to me if he's waiting for Rangers to secure their position in the top flight.
