Rumours going around that the toon are battling Everton for Shaqiri who is transfer listed by inter Milan for £12m

He's a good player but is inconsistent and tries to do everything himself. You know, he's the type of player who looks to try and beat one more man rather than pass or shoot.

Jesse Lingaard has been made available for transfer by Manchester United priced at only £2.5m. Steve McClaren is a big fan and wants Jesse at The Toon.

This could just be a non starter. Lingaard doesn't look like getting much game time with Januzaj, Depay, Mata etc ahead of him and he was on loan at Derby under Steve so this could just be the rumour mill at work. That being said I think he'd be a decent signing. From what I saw at the u21 Euros he was England's best player

Newcastle in the running to sign Saido Berahino. I'm in favour of this personally.

would be a terrific signing if it comes off. If we had a bit more pace in the team I think we could score a lot more goals. That in itself would take the heat off our defence.
our defence was suspect even when we had albert, howey, bramble and woodgate.

Would love to sign Berahino. Considering we have at least 4 first team CBs I don't see us signing another unless one is sold. We'll definitely need one more striker, especially if Cisse is sold(which would be a mistake). I don't think we'll pay the full £20 million West Brom want though.

20 Million plus the rest. If I was West Brom I wouldn't sell him unless a silly offer came in, if Austin is valued at 15 after a season in the prem. Plus Austin is 5 years older as has had big injuries.
Last year Berahino at 21 scored 14 prem goals, whereas Charlie Austin at that age had just been signed up from a non league side to join Swindon. I would put my money on Berahino being twice the player austin is today in 5 years. Berahino if available for 20 million would be a bargain, in 2-3 years he could be starting up top for england and valued at double that 20 million.

McClaren has admitted to be still searching for defensive reinforcements in this transfer window. He hasn't specified if this a CB,FB or a DM.

Whilst some clubs are toppibg up already established teams
Newcastle are still pratting about looking fior a CB and after Sunday Colloc will be rolled out to replace Williamson or Taylor.
Talk about poor judgment and penny ponching McLaren has a chance and needs take it and not gloss over the defence.

Yes tgey have and it shows we are nowhere near addressing the CB situation which is a complete disgrace.
Just up the road for Newcatle with a team at the other end of the country making a very good squad able to make decisions.

I agree desree I would much rather the toon spend around 15m on Berahino or Chicarito than on an Austin/Carrol type of forward as well
