At the start of the summer I was reasonably optimistic about big changes happening, better players coming in, etc. Now with every day that goes by I think the reality is going to be 'more of the same'. Carver and Stone leaving and McClaren coming in, regardless whether he was your ideal choice or not, was most definitely a step in the right direction. Now McClaren himself can't even seem to get his own backroom staff 'over the line'. Monday's target date has been and gone and yet there is still no news of assistant managers, coaches, fitness coaches, faith healers or tea ladies!

Yesterday brought reports of Newcastle's 'football board' meeting to discuss transfer targets. That doesn't exactly fill you with confidence - the time for talking amongst themselves has most definitely gone! For example, Liverpool have signed Milner and Ings in the time we have been kicking our heels - both of these players we should have been moving heaven and earth to get through the door.

Now is not the time for looking for the perfect deal. Now is not the time for trawling the frfench league or Spanish second division for rough diamonds. Now is the time to show some ambition and spend some money, or 'punch above our weight' as Mike Ashley put it. Will it happen? Or was it empty words by an owner who, as yet, has done nothing to instill faith in this very disillusioned supporter?!

Banch I share your fears. It appears that we won't be in for Austin because QPR won't play ball and sell Austin for 10m.
I can see 30,000 crowds at the start of the season and the club managerless abd in crisis by christmas. Charnley is highly incompetent, with our structure targets should already be identified and engaged with formalities of a medical and contract signed july 1. I can't even see us having a first 11 ready for season kick off.
If Ashley is serious about a cup bring in someone who can run a club, not just a balance sheet. What is Chris Mort doing these days?

Interesting wish list. you know santon is already gone ;)

I agree with most of it however I'd keep Taylor as I think he's a fairly good defender when he's not injured and I think McClaren likes him.
As we've already got a new CB coming in (Lascelles) I think we will only get 1 other CB I hope van Dijk or Vlaar, a presence in the back line. For winger I don't think we'll go for bolasie as much as we'd like him, but I think Matty Phillips or Florian Thauvin would be good. Don't think we'll pay the money for Berahino but would be very happy if we try and get Rémy as he's available for £8m apparently, also wouldn't mind seeing Cabaye come back for £10m, still haven't replaced him so why not just bring him back!

{Ed024's Note - Vlaar is reported as staying put, but Philips is a possibility if he can be convinced to come north.}

I wanted Micah Richards but if the ED is right and his attitude stinks then we have dodged a bullet. I like the look of Van Dijk and his ability on the ball would be good bringing it out of defence but I just don't know how god a DEFENDER he is. Colocini is good on the ball but is an average defender and the last time we bought a CB from the SPL (Boumsong)it was a disaster and it was a higher standard then. So I am unsure. If we could get Remy for £8m then I'd gamble on his fitness especially at nearly half what QPR want for Austin and if we could get Bas Dost for £9m then along with Perez and Cisse/Rivier should give us plenty of striking options. Don't want Bolasie or Thauvin especially for what they would cost. We need a playmaker desperately though and Cabaye is a no brainer for me and would lift the place and most importantly put a smile back on my wife's face which might lead to putting one on mine ;)

Just when you think things can't get any worse at Newcastle, our absolute joke of a club prove you wrong again. Getting beat off an Everton side, who hadn't won at Goodison Park this year, so comprehensively was bad enough. But for Collocini to get himself sent off at 2-0 down really does just take the p**s! Footballers are generally perceived as brainless these days, but ours would give most other clubs a run for there money!!
Collocini is hero worshipped at SJP and as far as I can see its for little more than performing at a little higher standard than the absolute garbage he's had alongside him in defence. And this for only some of his NUFC career so far. Who remembers how poor he was when he first arrived? He was excellent in the championship and was a very good performer in the season we finished 5th. The rest of the time - no sorry, not for me.
S. Taylor, when fit, flatters to deceive and continually turns us into a laughing stock by his 'gamesmanship'. His behaviour towards the opposing goalkeeper during an attacking free kick is a disgrace, by the way. If he cut out the bulls**t and concentrated on his own game then he MIGHT just become an average premiership centre-half.
Cheick Tiote. Don't think anthing needs to be said about him, apart from hopefully goodbye.
Papiss Cisse is having a stormer of a season in terms of goals to games but now finds himself for a significant number of games for the second time in 3 months. Like I say - brainless. Nowadays players can get away with nothing and would do well to remember this. If Cisse had not reacted and walked away, Evans would still have been punished with a ban from the FA and we'd have our top goalscorer available at a time when we need him most.
In my opinion a major overhaul of the playing squad is needed. Looking through it I would say next season I'm quite happy with our goalkeepers. In defence, I'd like to keep Haidara, Dummet and Janmaat. Get rid of Williamson and Taylor (both are an embarrassment!!). In midfield I'd like to keep Sissoko, Aarons, Abeid and Colback and chase Tiote, Gouffran, Sammy, Anita (honest pro but far too lightweight for premiership), R Taylor (too injury prone) and Obertan (brainless, headless chicken). Also, I'd thank Jonas for his efforts, wish him well and let him go. He's done excellently to get back playing again but even in his prime he was a winger who worked hard but offered little in terms of creating or scoring goals. Let's not let sentiment cloud things. In attack I'd be disappointed to lose Ayoze Perez and Armstrong. The rest, in my opinion, can go - as long as they are replaced. There, will no doubt lie the problem though!
Finally, as well as the Head Coach position to sort, hopefully something is done on the fitness side of the club. The amount of injuries we have suffered this season cannot purely be down to bad luck. For example Chelsea, who are competing domestically and in Europe do not have greater numbers in their squad than ours (don't believe me? Check for yourself). However for some reason their players are not picking up anywhere near as many injuries as ours, despite playing more games. I may be wrong but I am sure last season (when we harldy picked up any injuries) we had a lady fitness person working for the club. She left (I think it might actually have been to go to Chelsea) and this season has been a nightmare as far as injuries are concerned. Coincidence? Don't think so, and it desperately needs sorting.

Good post mate and I agree with you on virtually everything. Everything from top to bottom just needs a change. I genuinely think we have one of the poorest coaching setups in the prem. Carver/Stone/Woodman and Watson all need to go. They're dinosaurs in footballing terms. And as you say it cannot be a coincidence that 3 quarters of our ENTIRE squad is injury prone. Coaching IMO is a major problem along with some of the quality and attitudes of our players.

We play such awful football under carver (and pardew) and the astounding thing is, there is no logic in it. If you have a 5'10/5'9ish striker in either Perez/Riviere or even cisse, then what is the logic in getting williamson to hoof it to them every time he gets the ball. We never create anything from it, all it does is just concede possession cheaply and then the defence gets overworked (which I think is partly the reason why we concede so many) Graham Carr has bought in players over the last few years to play football on the deck, we have no target men, we only really have 1 or 2 out and out wingers in Sammy and Aarons (really hope we get his contract sorted out soon) and then you've got obertan who is such a clueless footballer.

I still think that Steven Taylor and Sammy have a place at our club, on Taylor's day I think he is very good ball playing centre back, he can win headers in both ours and the opposition's box, has a passion for the club, something that a few other players don't. I think he just needs the right coach to get the best out of him, same goes for sammy.

Cisse is a pure goalscorer, not a footballer if you know what I mean. Couldn't care less if he was sold.

Gouffran, watched him at bordeaux, and now he looks a totally different player. A track back player now, that pardew, carver and co converted him into.

Game against everton was an absolute joke. Embarrassing, humiliating, pathetic. So called captain coloccini getting sent off was when stopped watching.

Satka better get a start against arsenal, if he doesn't it will just show what a gutless man Carver is.

I see trouble ahead…. (there is a song about that), Janmaat to Liverpool, Sissoko to Arsenal, Aarons to Man City, Perez to Man City, Krul to Arsenal all have been rumoured and you wouldn’t bet on them going ether. Out of contract players most of whom I would want to go as well leaves Newcastle with nothing to build on. We all know that nothing will change until Ashley is out, so unless he is selling up in the summer (last time it was reported that he won’t consider this until 2016) we are in for darker times my friends. I have no doubt Carver will be our head coach next season and I doubt any major investment will happen ether. RELIGATION NEXT YEAR 100% if things stay the way they are! Are ONLY hope is someone buys out Ashley! Or fans force him out (which won’t happen cause he won’t leave unless he gets his money back)

Banch/jtoon - unfortunately its the fans who are the thick ones. we fork out hard earned cash to pay these clowns more in a month than most of us could dream to warn in a year.

Until Ashley sells we need to unite and stop buying season tickets. That is the only way he'll take action.

I see carver and relegation on the cards next season. how come our last 3 seasons follow exactly the same pattern?

On the injuries front, we buy cheap and there's a reason, they are duds.

anyone who renews their season ticket is 100x more clueless than collo, cisse or obertan.

Just read on Sky Sports that Robert Huth is available on loan. If Fat Mike really does not have any intention of buying then maybe Huth on loan until end of season would be a good move? Got to be a better option than Williamson, who let's be honest is absolute dogs**t!

Well here we are into another window, and all the talk is who is coming in as the new 'Head Coach'. Ashley and Charnley will be delighted as it takes the focus off signing players for a good chunk of the window. let's be honest - if anyone does come in as boss then it will be someone that is free or relatively cheap! If not then Carver will carry on as he is. We certainly will not be paying out 2-3 million compensation fees!!

In the meantime rumours are about Sissoko leaving and possibly even Perez. Most supporters know that the absolute minimum required in this window is a centre-half and a forward, and that is without anyone of note leaving. There are several 'dead wood' players in the squad I would be more than happy to move on in this window - namely Yanga-Mbiwa and Marveaux permanently, Santon, Ferguson, Vukic, Jonas, Anita and Shane Ferguson. But our best players - no!!

However the depressing reality is that we are nothing more than a cash cow, and things will never change as long as he's pulling the strings. Prize assets that were picked up for peanuts will be sold at a premium regardless of circumstances and incomers will be at a minimum to keep us ticking over in the lucrative premier league.

The thing is, Ashley doesn't need to behave like this. He has more than enough money and other business interests to keep him in the billionaire lifestyle he is accustomed to. Maybe he feels a sense of embarrassment in that he had to pay out a lot more than he first thought to purchase the club and get it back on a decent financial footing. That came from him not doing his due diligence. Did he not think at the time of buying that he was getting it on the cheap? Getting relegated cost the club a fortune as well, but the blame for relegation lay completely with Ashley and the decisions he made. Sometimes you must accept the consequences of your actions - you must take it on the chin.

Sitting here writing this I feel a mixture of sadness, anger and helplessness. NUFC is what I've been brought up on - my Dad and Grandad both lived and breathed the club. Now I'm the same but just feel resigned to the club continuing as a laughing stock. For the media and some so-called pundits (namely a washed-up stuttering former alcoholic and druggy ex-boro simpleton) to call us fickle is the biggest joke of all.

I honestly hope that in the very near future Ashley decides that Rangers is a more lucrative proposition that Newcastle, sells up and moves on. Because if not, as disgusting as I know it sounds I'm very close to praying for a helicopter accident : (

Quote from KK: "Don't ever give up on your club, keep supporting it, it's your club and trust me one day you will get your club back and it will be everything you wanted it to be, Newcastle United is bigger than anyone. It hurts I know, but just keep going, he is only one man, we are a city, a whole population. Trust me. "

Sorry for the late reply, i've just seen this;

If you have an experienced defender who's also your captain available you don't throw a young boy in at centre-half, unless he's a superstar. Lacelles isn't.

Also, would playing Colback at LB not mean playing him out of position?!?!

Lastly, i'm certainly not happy with McLaren, but to say we'd be better off with Carver?!?! Hahaha. Anyway, enjoy your exile.

Yeah let's drop Collocini! While we're on let's drop Taylor, Janmaat and Rob Elliot as well! The defence just about picked itself today, hence why Taylor (worst offender in my opinion! ) was thrown in again after 6 months out and Rolando Aarons was playing LB. So yeah, let's drop Collocini - really clever!

P. s. don't forget to cut up your season ticket (card)!

Are you kidding?? Whoever comes in (if anyone does) will not be looking, evaluating and deciding anything! The job now is simply coach and pick the team out of whatever pool of players you have. Best players will be sold at a premium and arrivals will be a minimum to survive in the premiership. That's how its been since Ashley arrived so its not going to change now! The sooner he decides Rangers are a bigger cash cow than us and moves on, the better!!
